Where Assurant does well

  • Renewals 4 of 20. Few problems found.
  • No automatic renewal trap in the flagship 360° plan: it is a fixed term, cancelable anytime by phone or online with a full refund in the first 30 days and pro-rata refunds after, plus a 20-day 'free look' rejection window in Washington and 10% admin-fee caps on cancellation (deleted entirely in Florida).
  • The plan's arbitration is non-binding — either side can reject the award and go to court — and six states (GA, LA, OR, NV, UT, WI, WY) delete the arbitration clause outright.
  • The website Terms require AAA Consumer Rules, a hearing in the county where you live, and Assurant will advance arbitration fees on written request.
  • On privacy: an explicit 'We do not sell your personal information' pledge, a 'Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information' link on the homepage, a stated no-fully-automated-profiling commitment (human review required for decisions with legal effect), and an explicit carve-out that nothing in the Terms waives your rights under your state's consumer protection laws.

Just visiting assurant.com means you give up your right to sue them in court or join a class action — every dispute goes to private, individual arbitration.

The fine print

6 clauses and findings from the draft archive, dated 1 October 2026. The plain English comes first; the small print is the company's own words. None of these has been checked yet.

  1. Just visiting assurant.com means you give up your right to sue them in court or join a class action — every dispute goes to private, individual arbitration.

  2. Even if a court throws out the arbitration clause, class actions stay off the table — and you still lose your right to a jury trial; a judge alone decides your case.

In the event any litigation arises between You and Us, any such lawsuit will be tried before a judge, and a jury will not be impaneled or struck.

  3. Arbitration outcomes are secret — neither side can talk about them — and the arbitrator can't award punitive damages no matter how egregious the conduct.

You and We agree that except as may be required by law, neither You nor We may disclose the existence, content, substance, documents, or information submitted thereunder, or any results of any arbitration hereunder without the prior written consent of other party. ... the arbitrators will not have authority to award punitive or exemplary damages.

How these were found

Documents read Oct 1, 2026 directly from assurant.com and Amazon's media CDN (no mirrors needed): (1) 'Legal Notice | Terms and Conditions' — https://www.assurant.com/legal-notice, effective date 10/07/2025, covers assurant.com website use; (2) 'Assurant Insurance Solutions | Privacy Policy' — https://www.assurant.com/privacypolicy/insurance, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley annual notice for insurance products, undated on the page; (3) 'Assurant Privacy Commitments and Privacy Notice' (Online Privacy Notice) — https://www.assurant.com/privacypolicy, last updated September 19, 2025; (4) 'Assurant 360° Protection Summary / Extended Service Plan Terms and Conditions' (product form PP24364-0714) — https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71E2b22hcrL.pdf, an older service-plan form sold via Amazon. Assurant also operates carrier/partner-branded consumer portals (firstprotection, desjardins, bmo, apu subdomains) with their own terms that were not reviewed; mobile device-protection plan terms vary by retail partner and state, and state-law disclosures in the 360 plan override several provisions.
