Annual commitment, monthly bills

Some annual plans paid monthly charge an early-cancellation fee of 50% of the remaining contract obligation after the applicable refund window.

Context and exceptions. This is not universal: plan, location and promotional terms differ. Month-to-month subscriptions have different cancellation terms. Check the section for your exact plan.

Settlement was not all cash

On March 13, 2026, DOJ announced a proposed settlement requiring $75 million in civil penalties and $75 million in free customer services.

Context and exceptions. DOJ’s announcement describes a proposed order subject to court entry. It does not support saying Adobe had already paid $150 million in cash.

The fine print

5 clauses and findings from the draft archive, dated 1 October 2026. The plain English comes first; the small print is the company's own words.

  1. The default plan looks monthly but is a year-long contract — quit in month 3 and you owe half of the remaining 9 months. The US government sued over this; Adobe paid $150M.

After 14 days, a cancellation fee (early termination fee) of 50% of the remaining balance of the contract applies.

  2. No lawsuit, no class action, and your claim expires in 12 months. Opting out needs a written notice within your first 30 days.

You may only resolve disputes with us on an individual basis, and you may not bring a claim as a plaintiff or a class member in a class, consolidated, or representative action… Claims… are permanently barred if not brought within one year.

    , §§14.1–14.2, 14.6

  3. Try a new feature and a real person can look through your files — after you told them not to track you.

Beta versions: Adobe may collect data and have humans review your content “regardless of whether you have opted-out of data collection for non-Beta Versions.”

  4. Adobe loses years of your work — the most you'll ever see is about a hundred bucks.

Liability “limited to the greater of (A) US $100; or (B) the aggregate amount that you paid… during the three-month period preceding the event.”

  5. Privacy is opt-in; exposure is the default.

If you do not choose the access level to apply to your Content, the system may default to its most permissive setting.
