Where WEC Energy Group does well

  • Arbitration 0 of 20. Nothing found.
  • Renewals 0 of 20. Nothing found.
  • Data retention 3 of 15. Few problems found.
  • No forced arbitration clause and no class-action waiver anywhere in the terms — rare for a company of this size.
  • The website privacy policy is unusually plain-spoken in the user's favor: 'We do not reveal any personal information to any third party that users provide to us through our websites. The information is used strictly within our company,' and 'We do not provide email addresses to third parties.'
  • Cookie policy is minimal: 'We do not retain cookies after you have exited your browser,' with cookie analytics 'only in aggregate form'; IP addresses are logged but 'not tied to your personal information and [are] not used to identify you.'
  • The company's official apps let users request deletion of their data (per its Google Play 'Data safety' disclosure).

The company can change the terms whenever it wants just by editing the webpage.

The fine print

6 clauses and findings from the draft archive, dated 1 October 2026. The plain English comes first; the small print is the company's own words. None of these has been checked yet.

  1. The company can change the terms whenever it wants just by editing the webpage. You are automatically bound by the new version, and it's your job to keep re-reading the page to catch changes — no email or banner notice promised.

WEC Energy Group may at any time revise these Terms and Conditions by updating this posting. You are bound by any such revisions and should therefore periodically visit this page to review the then current Terms and Conditions to which you are bound.

    Terms and Conditions

  2. Anything you send the company — feedback, questions, suggestions, ideas — loses all confidentiality. WEC can reuse, publish, or even build products from your ideas with no compensation or credit.

Any communication or material you transmit to the website by electronic mail or otherwise, including but not limited to any data, questions, comments, suggestions and the like, will be treated as non-confidential and nonproprietary. ... WEC Energy Group is free to use any ideas, concepts, know-how, or techniques contained in any communication you send to the website for any purpose whatsoever, including but not limited to developing, manufacturing and marketing products using such information.

    Terms and Conditions

  3. Merely visiting the website is treated as accepting these terms, and it wipes out any other agreement you may have had with the company — a visit to the site overrides prior arrangements.

By accessing and browsing the website, you accept, without limitation or qualification, the Terms and Conditions and acknowledge that any other agreements between you and WEC Energy Group are superseded and have no force or effect.

    Terms and Conditions

  4. The company disclaims liability for essentially all harm from using the site — including if the site infects your computer with a virus. Everything is 'as is' with no warranties of any kind.

Neither WEC Energy Group nor any other party involved in creating, producing or delivering the website is liable for any direct, incidental, consequential, indirect or punitive damages arising out of your access to, or use of, the website. ... WEC Energy Group also assumes no responsibility for, and shall not be liable for any damages to, or viruses that may infect, your computer equipment or other property on account of your access to, use of, or browsing in the website...

    Terms and Conditions

  5. WEC's own mobile apps (used by customers to view bills, pay, and manage accounts) share location data, personal info, and four other data types with third parties — a sharp contrast with the website privacy policy's blanket promise not to reveal personal information to any third party.

This app may share these data types with third parties: Location, Personal info and 4 others. ... Data is encrypted in transit. You can request that data be deleted.

Google Play Store — WEC Energy Group developer 'Data safety' disclosure for the North Shore Gas app

  6. The company explicitly threatens criminal prosecution — not just a civil lawsuit — over misuse of its website content or trademarks, unusually aggressive language for a utility company's website terms.

You are also advised that WEC Energy Group will aggressively enforce its intellectual property rights to the fullest extent of the law, including the seeking of criminal prosecution, if appropriate.

    Terms and Conditions

How these were found

Both core documents were read in full on October 1, 2026 via direct text fetch from the official wecenergygroup.com domain (no mirrors used). The Terms and Conditions page (https://WECENERGYGROUP.COM/home/terms.htm) bears no 'last updated' stamp; its forward-looking disclosure still cites the Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2022, suggesting the page has not been refreshed recently (search index last crawled it ~17 days ago). The Privacy Policy (http://wecenergygroup.com/home/privacy-policy.htm) likewise shows no version or effective date (search last crawled ~19 days ago). The mobile-app data-sharing figures come from WEC Energy Group's own developer-provided 'Data safety' disclosure on the Google Play Store listing for its official apps (North Shore Gas, Minnesota Energy Resources), not from the website privacy policy. As a regulated utility holding company, WEC's subsidiaries (We Energies, Wisconsin Public Service, Peoples Gas, North Shore Gas, Michigan Gas Utilities, Minnesota Energy Resources) operate under state utility-commission tariffs and separate customer-service agreements that were outside this review.
