Where Dollar General does well

  • DG honors Global Privacy Control: the site auto-detects a GPC signal and opts that browser out of online sale, sharing, and targeted advertising — and if you're logged in, opts you out of offline sharing/sales too.
  • Exercising privacy rights has no penalty: account holders who opt out, request deletion, or use know/correct rights keep their accounts and receive the same discounts and benefits.
  • DG Cash never expires while the account is in good standing, and if DG closes your account for reasons other than your breach, your DG Cash is distributed to you rather than forfeited.
  • The arbitration clause includes a small-claims-court carve-out and a written mechanism to reject future changes to the arbitration agreement (narrow, but real).

You cannot sue Dollar General in court or join a class action — every dispute must go to one-on-one arbitration instead.

Individual arbitration

Website/app disputes generally go to individual arbitration under Dollar General’s terms.

Context and exceptions. The terms retain qualifying individual small-claims cases and court actions concerning intellectual-property misuse; they do not prohibit every court proceeding.

Sale/sharing disclosure includes non-account holders

The privacy policy discloses statutory sale, sharing and targeted-advertising processing for both account holders and people without Dollar General accounts.

Context and exceptions. These terms describe privacy-law classifications, not necessarily cash sales of every person’s data. Review the policy’s privacy choices and applicable state rights.

Data sharing. Privacy Policy, state privacy disclosures

The fine print

10 clauses and findings from the draft archive, dated 1 October 2026. The plain English comes first; the small print is the company's own words.

  1. You cannot sue Dollar General in court or join a class action — every dispute must go to one-on-one arbitration instead.

YOU AND DOLLAR GENERAL AGREE THAT IN THE EVENT OF ANY CLAIM, DISPUTE, OR CONTROVERSY (WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE) ARISING OUT OF, RELATING TO, OR CONNECTED IN ANY WAY WITH THE WEBSITES AND/OR APPS... SUCH CLAIM WILL BE RESOLVED EXCLUSIVELY BY FINAL AND BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION

  2. No jury trials, no class actions — and you can't even band together with other customers for mass arbitration filings (25+ similar claims filed together are blocked). Rejecting a future change to this arbitration clause by mail still doesn't let you opt out of arbitration itself.

You and Dollar General both waive the right to a jury trial to the fullest extent permitted by law. You and Dollar General waive the right to file any Claim as part of a Mass Arbitration Filing.

  3. Dollar General openly admits it sells your personal information and shares it for targeted advertising — and it does this even for people who never created an account. Its disclosure chart lists identifiers (name, contact info, online IDs, government-issued ID numbers), purchase history, browsing activity, employment and education info, and inferred profiles as categories 'sold' or 'shared' to 'Advertising partners.'

We 'sell,' 'share,' and process for 'targeted advertising' (as those terms are defined under the CCPA and the Colorado Privacy Act) the Personal Information of both Dollar General account holders and non-Dollar General account holders for the purposes of personalizing online advertising content.

Privacy Policy & Data Protection Rights

  4. The DG app can track and monitor your phone's location. Separately, the privacy policy says DG collects your MAC address, IP address, battery state, precise geolocation, in-store location, driver's license numbers, and 'inferences drawn about you.'

DOLLAR GENERAL HAS THE ABILITY TO TRACK AND MONITOR ANY DEVICE THAT HAS DOWNLOADED THE APPS. Location information is collected by the Apps while the applications are running based on your opt-in settings.

  5. Dollar General can end its myDG rewards program at any time and every coupon or offer you haven't used yet simply vanishes, with no compensation owed.

If myDG is terminated, except as may be provided otherwise in these Terms, any and all unredeemed offers will be forfeited without any obligation or liability.

  6. If DG decides you violated the terms, your earned DG Cash balance is forfeited — and DG can also claw back any DG Cash it decides on its own that you didn't really earn.

If your Dollar General account is removed or deactivated by Dollar General as a result of your breach of these Terms... any rights you have to the DG Cash in your account will terminate and you will forfeit and no longer be entitled to such DG Cash. Dollar General may, in its sole discretion, deduct from your Dollar General account any DG Cash that Dollar General determines you have not earned or you have earned in violation of these Terms.

  7. DG can rewrite the rules whenever it wants with no promise to notify you — just keep using the site or app and you've 'agreed' to whatever changed.

We reserve the right to change, modify or amend all or a portion of these Terms at any time to the fullest extent permitted by law... YOUR CONTINUED USE OF THE WEBSITES AND/OR APPS FOLLOWING CHANGES TO THESE TERMS POSTED TO OUR WEBSITES AND/OR APPS WILL CONSTITUTE YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF SUCH CHANGES.

  8. Coupons you've clipped can be pulled at any moment with no warning, and DG takes zero responsibility for it.

Digital Coupons may be discontinued by Dollar General at any time without notice. WE WILL HAVE NO LIABILITY WHATSOEVER ON ACCOUNT OF ANY CHANGE TO THE DIGITAL COUPONS OR ANY SUSPENSION OR REVOCATION OF YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF DIGITAL COUPONS.

Terms & Conditions: User Shopping Agreement

  9. No matter what goes wrong, DG caps its liability at $100 — and if you don't formally notify them of a claim within one year, it's gone forever.

THE AGGREGATE LIABILITY OF DOLLAR GENERAL UNDER SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES FOR LIABILITIES THAT OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE BEEN LIMITED SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100)... YOU MUST PROVIDE DOLLAR GENERAL WITH NOTICE OF ANY CLAIM OR DISPUTE WITHIN ONE YEAR OF ITS ACCRUAL OR IT IS FOREVER WAIVED AND TIME BARRED.

Terms & Conditions: User Shopping Agreement

  10. Post a review or photo and DG gets a forever, irrevocable license to use it however it wants — including selling it — and pays you nothing.

For any User Content you submit or allow Dollar General to feature, you grant to Dollar General a non-exclusive, sub-licensable, fully paid-up, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable right and license to use, display, perform, transmit, copy, modify, delete, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, sell and distribute such User Content... without any compensation to you.
