Centene Corporation
Health Care

out of 100. Number 257 of 512, counting from the worst.
Where Centene Corporation does well
- Arbitration 2 of 20. Few problems found.
- Renewals 0 of 20. Nothing found.
- No forced arbitration or class-action waiver: unlike many consumer companies, Centene's website terms send disputes to Arizona state/federal courts (Section 9), and member coverage disputes use state-regulated grievance/appeals processes rather than arbitration.
- Sensitive personal information — including health information — is explicitly 'Not sold or shared' in the policy's disclosure chart, and PHI subject to HIPAA is carved out of this policy's scope in favor of stronger legal protections.
- Centene self-reports that it has not 'sold' personal data for money in the past 12 months.
- It also says it will honor recognized opt-out preference signals (e.g., Global Privacy Control) at the browser level where required by law.
Centene admits its online tracking and sharing routines are close enough to 'selling' your data that the law may treat them as a sale — the word is in quotes because they say no cash changed hands in the last 12 months, but advertisers, ad networks, social platforms and data partners still get your identifiers, browsing/search history, demographics and more for targeted ads.
The fine print
6 clauses and findings from the draft archive, dated 1 October 2026. The plain English comes first; the small print is the company's own words. None of these has been checked yet.

Although we have not "sold" Personal Data for money in the past 12 months, we engage in routine practices with our Digital Properties involving third parties that could be considered a sale of Personal Data or sharing of Personal Data for targeted advertising, as those terms are defined under applicable laws.

Your personal data is handed to commercial data partners who use it for their OWN marketing — not for Centene's services. And once it's with them, Centene washes its hands: 'Where recipients use your Personal Data for their own purposes independently from us, we are not responsible for their privacy practices or Personal Data processing policies.'

Centene runs session-replay technology that literally records how you interact with its sites and web forms (keystrokes, form entries, clicks) — and it explicitly ignores your browser's Do Not Track signal. You also have to repeat any opt-out separately on every browser and device, and if you block cookies entirely, they say they 'will be unable to comply' with your opt-out of sale/sharing.
Session replay tools, which record your interactions with our Digital Properties, such as how you move throughout our Digital Properties and engage with our webforms. ... Some browsers have incorporated Do Not Track ("DNT") preferences. At this time, we do not honor Do Not Track signals.

Leave Centene and they keep your data anyway — no deadline given. Stated reasons include making it easier to sign you back up later and marketing to you 'in case of interest.' The overall retention standard is just 'as long as necessary,' which they define themselves.
Once you have terminated your relationship with us, we may retain your Personal Data in our systems and records in order to ensure adequate fulfillment of surviving provisions in terminated contracts or for other legitimate business purposes, such as to enable easier future user onboarding, demonstrate our business practices and contractual obligations, or provide you with information about our services in case of interest.

Centene can rewrite the terms whenever it wants with no notice to you — simply using the site again counts as agreeing to the new version. The privacy policy matches: 'Any updated Privacy Notice will be effective when posted,' and you are 'responsible for ... periodically visiting this Privacy Notice to check for any changes.'
Centene may at any time modify these terms and conditions and your continued use of this site will be conditioned upon the terms and conditions in force at the time of your use.

Anything you upload or submit to Centene's site becomes theirs to exploit forever, royalty-free, 'as if [it] were public domain information.' On top of that, Centene disclaims ALL warranties, waives liability even for direct damages from using the site (you 'hereby waive any claims'), and you must indemnify Centene — including paying their attorneys' fees — for claims arising from your use of the site. Disputes go to Arizona courts (no arbitration).
By uploading or otherwise submitting a file or other information ("Contribution") to the Site, you automatically grant, or warrant that the copyright owner of the Contribution has expressly granted, to Centene a perpetual, royalty-free, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive right and license to use, reproduce, publicly display and/or perform, modify, store, publish, adapt, translate, create derivative works from, and/or distribute the Contribution (in whole or part) and/or to incorporate it in other works in any medium now known or hereafter developed for the full term of any copyright that may exist in the Contribution, as if the Contribution were public domain information. ... (a)ny direct, indirect, incidental, consequential and/or special damages arising out of your use of, or inability to use, the Site, and you hereby waive any claims with respect thereto ... You agree to indemnify Centene ... from and against any and all claims, suits, liabilities, expenses (including, without limitation, attorneys' fees), and/or damages arising out of claims based upon your use of the Site.
How these were found
Documents read directly from Centene's own site (no mirrors needed): (1) Centene Corporation Privacy Policy, https://www.centene.com/privacy-policy.html, marked LAST UPDATED: February 21, 2025; (2) Terms and Conditions, https://www.centene.com/terms-conditions.html, undated. A substantively identical corporate privacy policy appears on subsidiary sites (e.g., https://mmp.mimeridian.com/privacy-policy.html, LAST UPDATED: February 17, 2025), confirming this is the company-wide policy. No blocked fetches. Context: Centene is a managed-care health insurer; member health coverage itself is governed by state-filed Evidence of Coverage documents and state/federal law, and member health information (PHI) is expressly carved out of this Privacy Policy's scope in favor of HIPAA obligations. No forced-arbitration clause was found in any public document reviewed. Findings below are drawn from the website terms/privacy policy, which are the public-facing consumer documents.
