Where Cadence Design Systems does well
- Renewals 2 of 20. Few problems found.
- Tracking cookies are defaulted to off, so users are automatically opted out of cross-context behavioral sharing unless they explicitly opt in — better than the opt-out-by-default norm.
- US customers get real courts (Santa Clara County / N.D.
- California) instead of forced arbitration; only non-US customers face arbitration.
- Commercial orders are locked to the terms version in effect on the order date, protecting customers from later term changes on that deal.
- The privacy policy pledges no sale of personal information beyond the listed limited instances, provides a direct rights-request channel (privacy@cadence.com and 1-833-926-0704), and includes a non-discrimination promise for exercising privacy rights.
If you are a non-US customer, you cannot sue Cadence in your own country's courts — disputes go to a private, confidential three-arbitrator proceeding in San Francisco, and if you lose you can be ordered to pay Cadence's attorneys' fees, which is a strong deterrent to bringing a claim. US customers keep real court access (Santa Clara County / N.D. California), so this is narrower than the blanket consumer arbitration bans many companies use.
The fine print
6 clauses and findings from the draft archive, dated 1 October 2026. The plain English comes first; the small print is the company's own words. None of these has been checked yet.

For Customers located outside of the United States: Disputes must be resolved by confidential, binding arbitration administered by the International Centre for Dispute Resolution in San Francisco, California, in English, under its International Arbitration Rules... The arbitration panel shall consist of three arbitrators... The arbitrators may award costs and expenses, including attorneys' fees, to the prevailing party.

Cadence can rewrite the website rules whenever it wants, they take effect the moment they are posted, and it will not tell you individually — simply continuing to use the site counts as your agreement. (The commercial license paperwork is fairer: the terms version in effect on your order date governs that order throughout its term, regardless of later updates.)
We may revise and update this Agreement from time-to-time in our sole discretion. All changes are effective immediately when we post them; you will not be notified individually. Thus, you are expected to check this page each time you access a Site... YOUR CONTINUED USE OF A SITE INDICATES YOUR COMPLETE AND UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS SET FORTH IN THIS AGREEMENT.

Cadence openly admits it sometimes 'sells' your contact information — including your interests inferred from your browsing history — to business partners for money or in-kind perks like event sponsorships. It frames these as limited and consent-based, but the door is explicitly open.
In limited circumstances, we may disclose your information — with your consent — in ways that may be considered a sale in certain jurisdictions, including as follows: Cadence may receive payment from business partners that are authorized to sell Cadence products; should a sale result from our disclosure of your contact information to that partner... Under certain circumstances, our partners may also offer payment for provision of your contact information and interests (based on your browsing history)... We may receive in-kind compensation from partners in exchange for providing them with your personal information (e.g., event sponsorship). Other than the limited instances identified above, Cadence does not sell your personal information to third parties.
-
Anything you share on Cadence's sites — including code and bug fixes you submit — becomes Cadence's property outright, with an unrestricted, irrevocable license to use it however they like. Posting a fix for their product means they own the fix.
Cadence does not want you to submit confidential or proprietary information on our Sites. Except for passwords and associated login credentials, any information or materials you provide will be deemed non-confidential. By sending information or materials to Cadence you grant Cadence an unrestricted, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, display, perform, modify, transmit or distribute those materials or information... Any postings to chat rooms, forums, message boards, contests, or similar information you submit, as well as any computer code, bug fix, or other creative idea you provide, shall be deemed, and shall remain, the property of Cadence.

If Cadence thinks you breached the agreement, it can get a court order against you immediately without putting up the bond that normally protects the other side if the order turns out to be wrong. The same section's ambiguity rule is also waived: interpretation is 'neutral,' so Cadence loses no advantage as the drafter.
Breach of Customer's obligations may cause irreparable harm to Cadence, entitling Cadence to injunctive relief without posting bonds.

There is no fixed deletion timeline — Cadence keeps your personal data as long as it considers 'necessary,' with criteria like an ongoing relationship or any legal/business obligation that can stretch indefinitely. You can request erasure, but by default the data just stays.
We will retain your personal information for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy. The criteria used to determine such retention periods include: (i) the length of time we have an ongoing relationship with you; (ii) whether there is a legal or business obligation to which we are subject; or (iii) whether a longer retention period is required or permitted by law, for example to maintain certain contractual or tax records.
How these were found
General Terms for Products and Services is current (Last Updated: Feb. 2026); the website Terms of Use Agreement is undated. The Privacy Policy on cadence.com/privacy.html is JavaScript-gated and renders only a FAQ in text fetches, so the full privacy text was read from community.cadence.com/p/privacy-policy, which explicitly states it applies to 'all Cadence websites, products, processes, events, and applications referencing and/or linking to this Privacy Policy' (Last Revised: December 2022 — slightly stale). No mirrors or cached copies were used; all documents are on cadence.com-owned domains. Cadence is a B2B EDA software vendor with essentially no consumer surface (no consumer subscriptions or auto-renewal products), so the auto-renewal category was scored near zero and the overall score reflects the commercial/website paperwork that actually exists.
