Where Best Buy does well

  • Plus/Total memberships can be cancelled online through the account Plans and Subscriptions page — not phone-only — and include a generous 60-day full-refund window plus prorated refunds after that (refund may be reduced by the value of benefits already used).
  • Best Buy extends access, deletion, and advertising opt-out privacy rights to all Americans, not just residents of states that require it.
  • The arbitration agreement keeps a small-claims-court carve-out, tolls limitations during the informal process, and in mass arbitration Best Buy pays the mediator's fee.
  • The policy states Best Buy does not sell personal information for money to data brokers for their independent marketing; sharing is largely contractual/advertising-based with opt-outs offered.

You give up your right to sue Best Buy in court, join a class action, or have a jury trial.

The fine print

6 clauses and findings from the draft archive, dated 1 October 2026. The plain English comes first; the small print is the company's own words. None of these has been checked yet.

  1. You give up your right to sue Best Buy in court, join a class action, or have a jury trial. Disputes go to private individual arbitration instead.

THESE TERMS INCLUDE A BINDING ARBITRATION AGREEMENT, CLASS ACTION WAIVER, AND JURY TRIAL WAIVER THAT AFFECT YOUR RIGHTS. IN ARBITRATION, THERE IS NO JUDGE OR JURY AND LESS DISCOVERY AND APPELLATE REVIEW THAN IN COURT.

  2. Before you're even allowed to file for arbitration, you must spend 60 days trying to settle informally, and your complaint letter must be personally signed by you with detailed descriptions and a good-faith damage calculation — a formal precondition that can delay and complicate any claim.

Before you or Best Buy may initiate an arbitration proceeding, you and Best Buy agree to engage in a good faith effort to resolve the Dispute informally for 60 days... The Notice must be personally signed by the party initiating the Dispute... If you have the Dispute with Best Buy, you must send this Notice to Best Buy at CT Corporation System, Inc., 1010 Dale Street North, St. Paul, MN 55117-5603 or by email to Arbitration@BestBuy.com.

  3. The membership auto-renews forever until you cancel. If the card you picked fails, Best Buy may charge any other card on your account — and can permanently switch your billing to that other card for future renewals.

THE MY BEST BUY PLUS MEMBERSHIP... WILL CONTINUE INDEFINITELY ON A YEAR-TO-YEAR BASIS UNTIL IT IS CANCELLED. YOU AUTHORIZE US TO CHARGE YOUR DESIGNATED PAYMENT CARD, OR IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR DESIGNATED PAYMENT CARD, YOU AUTHORIZE US TO CHARGE ANY CARD YOU HAVE ON FILE WITH US ON YOUR ACCOUNT... YOU ALSO AUTHORIZE US TO CHANGE YOUR ONGOING DESIGNATED PAYMENT CARD TO ANY CARD ON FILE FOR SUBSEQUENT BILLING PERIODS.

My Best Buy Plus Terms of Service (June 2026), Section 9

  4. Best Buy can raise the price or rewrite the rules unilaterally; simply staying a member counts as your agreement, and your only recourse is to quit.

We may change the price of the Membership at any time upon 30 days' notice to you. We may in our discretion change these Terms, My Best Buy account terms, or any aspect of the Membership, without notice to you... YOUR CONTINUED MEMBERSHIP AFTER WE CHANGE THE PRICE FOR THE MEMBERSHIP OR THESE TERMS CONSTITUTES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THE CHANGES. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ANY CHANGES, YOU MUST CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP.

My Best Buy Plus Terms of Service (June 2026), Section 10(f)

  5. Best Buy hands your purchase history to social media companies for ad targeting, and those companies can merge it with their own data and use it for their own purposes — while Best Buy disclaims responsibility by saying those companies just have to follow their own policies.

As another example, we may share consumer purchase history with social media companies so that, if you have an account with that company's digital properties, they can improve the performance of our advertising on their properties and we can better assess how those advertisements performed. Some of these companies will combine this information with other personal information for their own purposes, independent of Best Buy, but are obligated by law to follow their own privacy policy.

  6. Anything you post — reviews, photos, videos, even social media content you let them feature — can be used, edited, republished, and sold-into-derivative works by Best Buy forever, without payment, and they can attach your name and handle to it.

You hereby grant Best Buy a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable right and license to use, copy, modify, adapt, translate, reproduce, transmit, publish, display, delete, create derivative works from, and distribute any information... or materials you share with us throughout the world in any media, including when you allow Best Buy to feature text, images and videos shared through social media... You also grant us the right to use the name and social media handle that you use when you share content with us in connection with that content.

How these were found

Best Buy Privacy Policy (Privacy Hub), effective 9/1/2024, last updated June 11, 2025 (https://files.bbystatic.com/401ab9d27e8e26cc795e7ec3d556500b/file_by_path/BestBuy_US/dam/Best-Buy-Privacy-Hub-250701-eae70cd9-bf32-4032-a766-b56258a17bcc.pdf). The live Privacy Policy hub web page rendered only section headings, so section text was taken from the official bbystatic PDF of the same policy. Do Not Sell opt-out behavior quotes came from search-result snippets of Best Buy's own Do Not Sell landing pages (bestbuy.com/sentry/landing). I did not evaluate My Best Buy Total plan terms separately (same arbitration/renewal architecture as Plus) and did not verify Geek Squad protection-plan terms, which have their own documents.

These notes come from the original draft and are not independent verification.
